Precisely what I am trying to say.  ILD gives us one way to measure 'firmness' in essence and assign a numerical value.  But what we label as soft/medium/firm is based on subjectivity. Science can tell you one bed is firmer than another, but not what the cut of point should be. If we left it based on this it would be like saying a 19 ILD...

Good luck pal.... been there with an I-Comfort Serta that was supposed to be the greatest for my problems too.. also that store had nothing of the same value for me to do a comfort exchange on.. without losing many dollars as they didn't refund if you went lower.. but they charged if you went higher.. the mattress stores are always a win win for them.... I ate the 3000 I spent and put the monster in my guest room..did that before I would give them back their high priced worthless mattress for another worthless piece they had in their store.. I have a new bed now but still not finding the comfort zone I need.. but I will never ever spend that much money on a mattress in my life again.. As far as a test for what you want, I doubt you will find any rep that will...

Joel,

Went to the American Mattress Store today to try out the different Tempur/Sealy foam beds. Didn;t really find one I was totally into. One of the Sealy's came close but it was $1700. It's super annoying having the sales guy stand over your shoulder forever. Makes relaxing realy difficult. The sales guy today was a pain. He was like you should know after 15 minutes if you want it or not. What a dick dude.

I'd be interested in finding out how close that came to the Tempur Model. Your trying to recreate tempur celebrity bed, right?

Upper/Mid back pain after sleeping on new mattress - VanessaB
Jul 13, 2012 5:56 AM
Hi,

About three weeks ago, I bought both a new mattress and new bed.  The mattress is a Sealy Posturpedic Proback Olympus.  Here are the details of the mattress, taken directly from the website:

PROBACK CoreSupport Center:

  • 2.5-cm (1-in.) PROBACK™ stabilizer pad
  • 1.3-cm (0.5-in.) PROBACK CoreSupport Center™ featuring ProGel memory foam
  • PROBACK™ support insulator

Plush comfort quilt layers:

  • 3.8-cm (1.5-in.) super soft StayTrue™ foam
  • StayTrue™ fibre

Plush deep down comfort layers:

  • 2.54-cm (1-in.) super soft high density StayTrue™ foam

After about a week of sleeping on the new mattress, I started getting upper/middle back pain.  It feels like it is right along the spine, near the bottom of my shoulder...

I am a broke college student like yourself and have studied DIY mattresses once before and again recently after being rather disappointed with my Sealy Posturpedic Pillowtop. When I originally bought the mattress I ordered a 3 or 4 inch memory topper from foambymail. The topper was white but I think may be different than their current white memory foam. Either way, the topper was amazing and the bed was great. My dog tore up the memory foam and so now I sleep directly on the mattress which is so firm it hurts my back. So I again started the research recently. I kept hearing about the Tempurpedic Celebrity as the King of the Memory Foam Hill, so I did a little looking and found this picture:

I sent some comments to the Strobel people. what do you think? - jaco0582

I sent them an inquiry yesterday, to which so far no response received. June 24th: Hello, I am doing research to learn more about non-toxic mattresses--which i have deduced are essentially only available outside the "conventional" mattress industry of the "three s's," Sealy, Simmons, and whatever the third one is. I have surveyed the information on your website--and I gotta say, I believe the FloBeds people and I don't believe your claim at all. You are burning wool that probably has too much air amidst the fibers. You gotta pack that wool in more, and start with clean natural fibers. Then, you will find that the FloBeds people were right. Oh, but you already know that; you are merely engaging in...
"Garretson Firm" Sealy Full Mattress from Costco Warehouse - jaco0582
Jul 23, 2012 11:29 AM
I bought one of these in store, on sale marked down from 259.99 to 209.99.  Its about my 3rd recent effort at finding a decent mattress to sleep on.  I returned one memory foam mattress and one spring coil mattress already.  So far the comfort level is okay, and the price was right, but I have noticed some respiratory and/or health symptoms that I am not sure if they are attributable to the toxic chemicals in the mattress.  So that's what my question is about--how can I learn more about if this mattress is toxic?

I will have to decide between keeping this mattress, or returning it to Costco on the basis of chemical exposure concerns & in that case I will have no known alternative except to spend a lot of money for a full size mattress.  I have looked at flobeds.com as well...

I'm in a dispute with a mattress store. I was sold an inferior quality mattress the was described as a Sealy Posturpedic Firm Eurotop and the the same without the Eurotop. Both are equally bad and offer no support for a back that needs support. My credit card company tells me my only recourse now is to find an independent or 3rd party who can test the mattress to prove that it does not meet the requirements to be labeled as "firm". I do not want an exchange because everything I tried in the store was uncomfortable. I agreed to settle on the Sealy because the salespeople told me I should sleep on it for at least several weeks or more to really evaluate it. After two night might back was so damaged I have to go for therapy. I know this mattress is not at all supportive, but I...

I would really like to know what you decided on doing?

I am KILLING myself over this decision.

The Night Therapy 12" Latex mattress seems like a really good value. 7 inches of latex in a Sealy costs $2000.

The thing that worries me though is that all the Night Therapy latex mattresses say "Firm". I am wondering how firm that is. I weight 240 pounds and my last innerspring mattress broke down and I ended up having lower back pain.
