I believe it was a single piece of medium dunlop. I just don't see how it can feel that different. One thing I am thinking about is maybe if I change the orientation of my layers it would feel more like this. Right now I have both firm sides up. Maybe it would feel more like this with both firm sides in or out?
"Dunlop is an interesting type of latex because of it's tendency to settle in manufacture. This means that a single say 6" layer can act like it is softer on top and firmer underneath."
Wouldnt this mean that the supposedly flippable Englander mattresses would...

The first is to form enough of a cradle around your sleeping profile that the pressure is spread out over your body enough to relieve pressure ... especially in your "most difficult" sleeping position (on your side). This is the function of a comfort layer. The more "gaps" there are to fill in ... the deeper this cradle needs to be. Side sleeping has the biggest "gaps" to fill in so in general terms it needs a thicker softer layer than other sleeping positions to relieve pressure. How deep a cradle you need or how thick and soft the top layer needs to be is also dependent on how sensitive you are to pressure. There aren't very many people who side sleep on a mattress with 32ILD Dunlop in the comfort layer and find it comfortable. Flobeds has...

Of these 3, the rubber (called latex when it is a foam) is the most durable and can easily outlast an innerspring. This is not the case with the other 2. Latex is a more expensive foam so the "S" companies don't like to use it as it cuts into their profits and when they do they charge way too much for it and will often use a worse quality of rubber....

OK ... enough "bragging" (just couldn't resist :)). Back to mattresses.
I think whether your construction would work for you or not would depend partly on the type of springs you are working on. For a comfort layer this thick I would want them to be very firm. Simmons makes a "luxury firm" version which is softer and an extra firm version which is firmer.
Being a 60% stomach sleeper that is prone to back injuries, I...

I'm a big guy, 6'1" and about 225. My wife is about 5'7" and roughly 116.
We both have allergies.
I have 2 long-herniated discs and constant, low-level mid-back pain.
I can't sort through all the info. Do we want Dunlop or Talalay? All natural or blend? What brand?
I've also seen http://www.mattresslab.com/ that a chiropractor friend recommended.
I don't want to order online because I want to try the mattress out. I'd also like to keep to a max $2500. But to be honest, this is really stretching the limits of what I can spend.
Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

My husband and I just upgraded to a latex mattress, and the company we bought from was having a special at the time . . . buy one get one free on their latex pillows, so we decided to give them a try. What I like about our pillows is that we can open them up and take out some of the latex or add more back in so we can configure them to the right firmness for us. Honestly, I don't think I would buy a latex pillow that I couldn't adjust, because when we first got the pillows they were VERY firm. I was actually surprised at how much latex we had to take out to make them comfortable. Now, I know with these adjustable pillows, they make them extra firm...

Background:
My wife and I have a 5 year old Queen size mattress that still appears to be in good shape - no dips, bumps or springs poking through and foam topping still seems resilent. It was manufactured by Indufoam (El Salvador for Central American market) and is non-flip, bonnel spring based, foam topped (approx. 1 1/2" of who knows what kind of...

I am sorry I forgot to mention that all prices I quoted were for Queen size.
I talked to Bob (owner) at Custom Sleep Design and he quoted me $2299 for Queen set with foundation or $2179 for Queen mattress only. His mattress consists of 6” base core, 3” middle layer and 2” topper layer and it is all Talalay Latex.
I visited the Mattress Factory and I spoke to Ron (owner) and he quoted me $2299 for their Queen set with foundation. But his mattress consists of 5” HD foam base with only 6” Talalay Latex on top. And you don’t get to choose the firmness level for the Latex because it only comes in 36 ILD. The only choice you get is to choose the firmness level of HD core.
The price I quoted for Pure Latex Bliss...
