I would recommend Gardner Mattress without hesisation.I visited their store in Newton several times and was impressed with not only their mattresses, but their sales staff as well-very honest and not pushy at all. When I purchase my latex matress (not from Gardner, but mailorder) and told them about my issues I was having they gave me suggestions to try and didn't try to steer me towards one of their mattresses...how many stores would do that?I dealt with Mark in the Newton store (brutually honest-be prepared) and talked to Matt Power online and both were good guys.Last time I checked the webpage was down so I would sent Matt an e-mail and ask him for suggestions. Are you looking for a traditional mattress/boxsprings?Latex?Memory Foam? They have all three available but their pride and joy is their tradional mattress/boxspring.They are available in five different firmnesses with different toppers if wanted. When I was looking last year...

Gardner does claim their latex mattress composition is 100% talalay (although in the store they call it "telelay") under the ticking. I get pretty much instantaneous return with the firm. Even after six hours in one position, on a hot night.
Even with the medium I got instantaneous return if I didn't lay there long enough for the deep sinking effect to take hold, but at 5am on a hot night it was pressed in pretty good for long enough to be uncomfortable upon switching positions. (After fifteen minutes out of bed it looked perfectly flat, but what with the warmth in the mattress under where I'd been sleeping, it still felt a little softer there than on the cooler portions to either side.)
I don't know as much about the physics of latex foam as I perhaps ought to to evaluate anybody's claims on the subject. Anybody wanna swing by Gardner...

Well, we've swapped our mattress out with Gardner for the firm, which turns out to feel softer than the one in the store does (on our split foundation that came with the medium) but has none of the hammocking. I sink in just a tad at the hips, but not too much. It's very comfortable, and I can change position through the night and be instantly comfortable in the new position. (That said, I think I understand why Nature's Rest and some others go with zoned latex, the down side of which is of course that you can't rotate your mattress. Ours is rotatable, but I've gotten some contrary info on how often to rotate - "a few times per year," "you never have to rotate it," and "every couple of weeks for the first few months, then every 3-4 months" - rather confusing.)
Just FYI. I do think the medium...

Low profile plush. Sorry, thought I'd made that clear enough from my early review.
-- Actually, I just went and looked at the container it came in, and that does say "Renewal" in small letters in the lower right corner of the front; so that's the sort we bought. Gardner only had the first two kinds from the list in the original post; each comes with a red sewn-in satin corner sash that says "Rejuvenite" and either "Low Profile Plush" or "High Loft Firm" but no further information. Given Gardner's no-return pillow policy and my wife's preference, we snipped the sash off with scissors before the first night.
FWIW, two nights of good sleep but slightly odd smell from the pillow makes me think I need to run it (or its cover) through the laundry......

This response is probably a bit premature, because we bought ours yesterday, but we loved 'em at Gardner Mattress and slept well on 'em last night.
The low-profile plush may be 5.5" when there isn't a head on it, but it does squish down. I found it squishes down to a very nice height for me when back sleeping - too low for me when side sleeping unless I stick my hand underneath (which is how I slept growing up, with a firm low-profile latex pillow as my preferred pillow).
I was a little sorry at Gardner to see that they didn't have a low-profile firm in addition to the low-profile plush (they do carry the high-loft firm, but it also squeezes down to the same feel, although maybe at a greater height as the pillow is a bit thicker to begin with). Neither of these pillows is particularly dense. Gardner also...

Is this a good, trustworthy company to deal with? What is the price range of mattresses? Right now my budget will only allow me to spend about $2,000 on a full size mattress.
I need a decent mattress that is not too firm yet not too soft and provides the proper amount of back support and relief of pressure points. I'm 5'6" and in the 130 pound range.
I don't want to buy from Sleepy's or Raymour & Flanigan based on lots of customer complaints. There really aren't any more local stores that sell mattresses except for Macy's, and their selection is limited. I'm desperate for a comfortable mattress, as I've been sleeping on an Aerobed. I don't know whether it is worth the long drive to Gardner Mattress.
Thanks for any info about Gardner mattresses and any other suggestions....
