Re: Dilemma with replacing Sealy Collamore w/a Sealy Embody. Help! - Phoenix

All of the springfree models have more poly in the comfort layers than the embody models (including the firmest) ... and so would have greater odds of developing depressions. I also doubt they'd be offering an exchange if they had any left. There is no doubt that it would need a topper if it was flipped while the embody in the right model wouldn't so that would save a few hundred dollars as well. Upside down the springfree could also cause back issues with hammocking with that much soft poly under the latex.

The mattress is toast and since he is getting a warranty exchange ... which is rare ... he might as well take advantage of it to get a better mattress.

PS: of course there's always the mattress surgery option ... but that would end up costing more as well.

Just for reference ... a little more about Sealy's smart latex and a bit of history

Sapsa and Latex Foam Products were partners in 1996 in a joint venture called Latex International. LI produced Talatech from Latex Foam Products and Dunlop or what they call "Continuous Process" from Sapsa. http://www.allbusiness.com/manufacturing/furniture-manufacturing-mattress-mfg/7278767-1.html

In 2001 Sealy purchased Sapsa and became the biggest latex producer in the world.

Also in 2001 a fire burned down the LI factory which was rebuilt within a year. This disrupted the growth of latex products in North America.

Springfree II introduced in 2006 with the same core http://ir.sealy.com/phoenix.zhtml?c=151044&p=irol-newsArticle&ID=885286&highlight=

The smart latex trademark was registered in 2008 http://www.trademarkia.com/smart-latex-77450063.html and this was also when the PurEmbrace line using smart latex was introduced. This grew from the "Pressure Relief Inlay system" that was introduced in the Posturepedic lineup earlier....

You purchased the Euro Plush model of the Sealy Springfree line. That's why it has all of that poly foam on the top and sagged. Mattress Giant also carried a plush model called the Saratoga Springs ( which is the same as the Beachside and Garden Vine models). They still may have some at closeout price from their warehouse. It is firmer with less poly on top and a latex base of 8.9 inches. If not, have you thought of flipping your mattress so that the latex core would be on top? If that was too firm, add a softer latex topper.

Well I tried some more latex beds today which reinforces that I think I may like a firm core with like 2" of really soft on top.  There were a few mom and pop matress places I found in my city so I figure I better look at them to be able say I tried them all to feel good about my decison on buying my layers....just had time to go to one today but will try others that have some Natura beds later.....The one store had:

1)  Sealy Springfree - salesman had absolutely no clue about latex...I was educating him, lol....anyway it was an older model and had cutaway of the latex core.  It was 7.3 of firm latex, 1.6 plush latex, 1" sealy supersoft poly foam topper,  quilted cover with 1.5" by .5" soft convoluted poly, and .5" poly....why ruin all that latex with poly top...anyway I did really like feel...

Reply to Kevin.. my first experience was with the I-Comfort Serta Prodigy.. poor choice lost a ton of money with it.. actually still own that one it is in my guest room.. all my guests love it.. then switched it out for the Tempupedic it was a firm one.. forgot the name, it will come to me.. but it was supposed to be the firm..however lucky to have a good sales person who got me out of that money mess.... but ended up trading that in as it was HOT  HOT HOT>.. the I-comfort never got hot at all.. but even with the firm Temp. I just kept sinking and every body part was killing..I will never go that route ever again.. I have a cheap-o coil Restonic now that cost me 1000 even.. and I don't hate it.. but it is  a 1000 times better on my body than...

Hi..  I had a wonderful Latex springfree by Sealy.. however the thing bowed across the middle after only 1 1/2 years.. I couldn't find it again as nobody told me they are now being made by Stearns & Foster.. but it was too late.. ended up going with a high end memory foam.. omg.. a nightmare for my body.. so much pain etc. and the pain really came when there was nothing for me to exhchange out to at the store I purchased it.. all the beds were so cheap.. so I simply put it in my guest room.. so then I had to search again and finally came to the conculsion to just not look at all the expensive and to go back to a decent coil.. found a reputable Mattress Company and did buy a 1000 yes that's right 1000 dollar mattress from Restonic..not a well known name but...

Hi.. I had a Springfree Sealy latex.. top of the line.. lasted 2 years and bowed across the middle.. it was defective.. caused me much pain.. not to mention how heavy these things are..I hate latex.. it caused so much hip and back pain and pretty much beat me up all night long.. just took me too long to realize it was the bed doing all these things to me.. I also feel if a Bed is a good one there should be NO need to use all these toppers that so many people talk about.. Why not make your own bed.. I am a firm believer that these latex beds are not all they are cracked up to be.. just my opinion..good luck

Re: a couple more questions- what is a good coil spring mattress, and assurance regarding topper depth - Glenbury

Hi.. seems like most of the people here are making their own mattresses with toppers.. what an industry this is.. unreal at outrageous prices and we are all at their mercy..!!

I have had so many defective mattresses in the last 4 years it just boggles my brain and my body..Sealy had some awful problems with their pillow tops and thus removed them from my home more times than I can count.. then was told never to buy a pillow top.. excellent advice because that is what you are purchasing.. that topper is all, once that breaks down the mattress is shot.. and sooner than later you will get your coffin..  Got rid of that and decided there was NO coil mattress worth a my money anymore especially with the NO flip advantage to at least gain a few more years of wear.. then off to a Sealy Spring...

Hi.. just thought I would put my two cents in here.. I did so much research about 3 years ago for the latex mattresses.. ended up with the Sealy Springfree.. loved it for the 1st year..then it seemed like the latex was getting strange.. the upper part of the mattress was so beautiful to lay on and conformed to every part of your body but I was un aware of what it was doing to me when I slept on it..  In the second year it began to bow across the middle and cause so much body pain it wasn't even funny..plus after much reading on latex I have learned that the latex is a powerful material.. as you lay on it the latex it continues to press on your body because it naturally wants to stay up, thus as your body sinks in it is pushing back.. the hip pain...

Hi.. I am 2 weeks into the Prodigy.. it is replacing a defective 2 year Springfree Sealy latex which I loved, however they do not make them anymore.  This Prodigy ended up costing me another 1500 on top of my credit from the latex..Unreal..to say the least.   I just went back to the store today to express how uncomfortable I am on this mattress and they told me to keep it for at least another 2 weeks to let it condition to my body.  I was told to walk on it to soften it.  It is soft where my hips and back and head lie but my legs seems to have noplace to be cushioned.  I am a stomach sleeper and in that position from my knee down to my foot seems to be suspended in air.  Thus leg pain has now become a new way of life.   I want...
