Re: is this true "100% Natural Talalay does not exist"???? - jimsocal

I have always believed that natural latex is better than synthetic latex but now I have to question that.

I happened to be looking at a Stearns and Foster 97% latex mattress just for fun (I was really there to look at their Intellicoil pocket coils which are made from one wire twisted into a spring within a spring; very ingenious design). Anyway as I was trying out the latex mattress a representative from S&F was there and asked me if I had any questions! Boy, did I! I am sure he did not expect to encounter someone who was well-versed in latex specs and who in all honesty probably knows more about it than he did.

However, he made the claim that natural latex will NOT last as long as synthetic latex (i.e. retain it's positive properties). I said I had heard different and was...

Re: Opinions about the quality of Sueno, Savvy Rest and Bella Serta? - Phoenix

I would agree with Budgy that of these choices the Sueno (in it's nicest version) is the nicest followed by the Bella Sera (assuming this is what you meant) and IMO Habitat furnishings is not even in the same ballpark. The cover and construction would depend to some degree on which version of the Sueno you were looking at as they (Sleeptek) also make mattresses with "lesser" covers or that are not reversible and without the cotton layers in between in which case IMO the Bella Sera may be better value.

Savvy rest offer's a "do it yourself" latex mattress in either Dunlop or Talalay but they are much higher in price than others with the same materials, flexibility, quality, and construction.

A place that carries all of the choices you mentioned (as well as other high quality latex mattresses) is here (I suspect from...

It just so happens that I did most of my field testing in Seattle so I do know of a few places :)

These should be helpful ...

http://mattressdepotusa.com/mattresses.htm Retailer. Be careful if you go here as most of their Englander latex has a poly core (not so bad) and 2" poly over the latex (much worse). You would be testing poly thinking it was latex (which they are "trained" to say it is).

http://thesleepstoreusa.com/index.php?main_page=page&id=3 Carries a wide variety of latex including Essentia, Land and sky, Dormia, and Natura. Good testing ground but I wouldn't buy anything there due to pricing.

"I HOPE you weren't referring to Vancouver Island when you said "Maybe that's part of the price you pay for living in such a beautiful but isolated part of the world" lol."

Vancouver Island is paradise and is the CENTER of the world. If it's not important to us ... it's just not important :)

OK on to some mattress talk ... cause that really important! (laughing)

There's a place on Fort st http://www.goodplanet.com/ and they have a couple of what look like Sueno and Greensleep. They are all very nice mattresses and are also well worth laying on as the Sueno's especially are easy to duplicate and both are good quality.

Sleep country also carries the Zenbody by sealy. One of them is all latex (core and top with no poly believe it or not) and one of them...

I found out that I'm able to replace my Simmons® Beautyrest Alcove Plush Eurotop Mattress. If anyone has any info on where I can purchase a Simmons (mattress only), and not get taken advantage of. I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks

What about a Comforpedic?  Or one of their "NaturalCare" latex mattresses?

Are latex beds without any coils supportive enough?  I'm nervous they are too mushy and unsupportive.  I like them for watching TV but nervous how i will feel after 8 hours or 8 years!  I am so confused and really need to buy something.  I', going back out to more stores today for the 10th day in a row and the sales people are NO help.

Just keep in mind some 'latex' beds are just maybe a couple or few inch layer of latex.  Example is Serta Vera Wang latex collection.  Some of them are probably alright, but I hated the price they wanted.  Didn't like the Simmons natural care - mattress too high.  I don't like mattresses much over 10" height.

The thing with the layered all latex in a cover is it...

Anyone know why latex is so unpopular in S brand mattresses? - slpngoc

I've read here how good latex can be a fantastic comfort material in mattresses.  I've even sampled organic mattresses with natural talalay latex and they're great, but the price and terms not so much.  But, I'm appalled at how few choices there are for mattresses in major stores than have any amount of latex in comfort upholstery.

Serta sells a $1,600 twin 8" mattress (Vera Wang where you're paying for the fancy cover) set which felt inconsistent between 2 stores.  There are no Sealy latex mattresses around.  Simmons makes a Natural Care that was decent, but the stupid thing is a 13" height mattress when it doesn't need to be.    The choices are very limited.

Anyone venture why?  Is it that latex is hard to produce?  Expensive?  Too heavy? Most don't like the feel?

Memory foam is all over the place and often found stacked...

Ok, Just wanted to throw this out there ...

did you try the iComfort Genius?  Reason I say is because Genius is the firmest of all of them.  Top layer is the gel, but under that is a firmer layer, forgot what they call it.  I've tried Genius in 2 stores and both the same, firmer feel.

Not to harp in iComfort, but  the price is quite a bit easier than TP.

And not to harp on Latex either, but I've tried the Laura Ashley latex at Sears, yuck, Simmons Natural Care latex, just ok.  I already spoke about the Eco-Cloud / Clarity above.  Sorry...

I too have done a ton of research here too, and also do not like a bed that sleeps warm. I'm passing this advice to you strictly from the plethora of information I've been reading here, not by personal experience. So here goes:

What's causing the bed to retain heat is the petroleum based sythetic foams used in the top layers of the bed. Recommendations given to others in the past are to add natural materials between you and the synthetic stuff. Natural materials unfortunately are not inexpensive. Most recommend a thick wool topper, a latex topper, or both.

Lower threadcount sheets are also a great idea. Get percales if you can afford them. Because every thread is woven over every other thread, these breath much better than sateens. I'd also recommend 100% cotton. I just picked up a king sized set of Percales which were...
