The comfort layer should cradle your body (filling/supporting in all gaps), distributing your weight as much as possible across the support layer below. The comfort layer should be thick and firm enough to do this for your sleeping profile and weight. A typical side sleeping profile gap could require 2-4", 3" average of comfort thickness. A heavier person will require firmer comfort than alighter person. If the support layer below is not very much firmer...
Beautyrest or alternatives, spinal fusion disc issues - npfd

Hi there,
I had a spinal fusion, top to bottom done in my early teens, now late 20s. I've been having disc degeneration issues in the lumbar area, and suggested to get a firm mattress.
I've been going to mattress stores for about a month now. First with the salesperson we settled on a firm memoryfoam, Sealy Soleil. After consulting a few mattress sites, some say that memory foam is not ideal for the problems i'm having. I realize this after that memory foam is hard for me to move and get up on.... Since then I've changed my order twice, haven't taken delivery yet.
I believe I've narrowed it to two models, budget allowing too....
Both double:

I have just bought a Dormiente latex classic orthoform female mattress and classic slatted base. It is awful. My back, which prior to this was the only part of me not in pain, is in agony and I can hardly move. Has anyone any advice?? Can't find any English speaking reviews either. ...

So I realize that the original question was posted over 5 years ago but I just have to put my 2 cents in because I am livid with the quality of this horrible mattress and the customer service. 2 years ago I purchased the Nex Euro Gel Latex/ Model: Ortho Gel Solutions-Ortho Gel Euro. This is Manufactured by Natura World in Canada. Within 2 months -- yes, thats 2 MONTHS- the mattress started to sag. My husband is a fit 180 lbs. 6'1 man and I am a slim 5'5", 118 lbs. woman. We literally fall in the hole when we sleep on it. BTW- we also bought a brand new high-end bedframe and also a mattress protective cover to protect from stains and rotate as recommended) We called the sales person that sold it to us (we bought it from the rep...

Though there's no one mattress that's sure to please everyone, there are some key considerations to keep in mind when out shopping for your dream bed that will increase the chances of you getting the best mattress for your buck with the least amount of legwork.
1. Take your time
Most manufacturers don't offer a guarantee on comfort, so it's best to spend time lying on the showroom mattress to ensure confidence in your new purchase. There are a few brands that do offer a comfort guarantee, so it always pays to ask.
2. Don't shop tired
All the mattresses will feel great when you're already sleepy!
3. Don't get sucked in by sales jargon

I have a friend, male, who is 6'2" or 6'3" and w?ighs over 400 lbs but n?t many scales can weigh him, exactly. He has an Original Mattress Factory, Orthopedic Extra Firm, with the double r?w of foam cylinders for edge support. He says it's the only thing that suooprts his weight ans holds up well. He bought it as mattress + box spring set in 2007. When I checked with OMF last Fall and again in March 2011, they told me that they don't offer the double row of foal edge supports, it's just a single r?w now, due to not wanting to fl?mmability-test it. I take that to mean that the double row probably didn't pass or won't pass, so now thwy sell only a single row or no additional edge support. That set runs around $900 or...

Everyone needs different amounts of sleep
I would recommend a spring mattress,
Because individual springs are designed to support different parts of your body.
It is also more suitable for orthopedics
I bought an unknown mattress brand before. Buy from amazon
I think it's ok, it's soft, it supports my body and it doesn't hurt my back when I wake up the next day.
Seems to be called homylink...

How much are you spending? £1000? £2000???
I would avoid getting a memory foam mattress. You will sink into it and moving around while your sleeping will be difficult. I had bought one for my dad, he hated it, he is disabled and it was not comfortable
I would go for the pocket sprung orthopaedic type ones.
If you can really afford to spend some money, then look at Homylink- https://homylink.co.uk/pages/pocket-sprung-mattress

I'll be buying one of those once I get my house....which will be never..lol
Go into more than one bed store and check them out. I found the people at John Lewis very helpful.
Good luck
ps. a bit of hard work, that should never put you off...lol :p...
