After only a week it's probably too early to rate this but I thought I would pass along my first impression.

This mattress isn't as substantial as the previous Serta I owned. I can squish this one together between my hands and it bends too easily - something I couldn't dream of doing with the other one. I thought, at first it was a mistake, and that I had received a foam mattress. They are obviously using more foam in these innerspring mattresses which would explain the light weight and different feel.

I agree with other posters that the new innerspring mattresses aren't springy. It's dead, like sleeping on a futon "couch" which I never found comfortable either.

I remember the old Serta left me cooly refreshed and I didn't sink in at all. I woke up feeling well rested. Now I'm sinking in a little and coming to rest on something a little too firm when I sleep on my side. I weigh 240lbs and got 8 years out of the old one, also rated "firm" and in the same price range. I really question how long this will last and what the level of comfort will be. I already plan to add a topper, something I hoped to avoid since I don't like the feel or warmth of foam.

I hesitated getting this model, even on sale, when I saw that it weighed 20lbs less than a bargain mattress I bought for the guest room. I tried this mattress in a bag, compressed mix of coils and foam, for several days and think it's as comfortable as this Serta for about 1/4 the price. It may not last as long but what's a few less years discomfort?

I wish mattress companies would stop the anti-consumer practice of giving the exact same mattress model a different name at each retailer so consumers can't comparison shop, research, and make an informed purchase. I spent hours going through the many mattress names at different outlets trying to get more information on this model, guessing by the specs which ones were the same.

If Serta's goal was to get me to purchase this "Vanessa" mattress, they succeeded, if their goal was to keep me as a loyal customer, they failed.

Pros:

Got it on sale. Doesn't sag or hurt my back - yet.

Cons:

Has too much of the dead foam feel and not enough springiness.

I sink through the top layers and feel something a little too hard.

I don't wake up feeling refreshed and sort of dread going to bed.

Wow, finally I've realized I do enjoy sleeping on my side without my arm falling asleep. This bed is fantastic. I sleep better, wake up less, and look forward to sleeping in this bed. My wife agrees also. It's no wonder Serta is the biggest supplier to hotels and motels.

This is the worst mattress I have ever slept on. My back, hips constantly hurt. In the morning I am so stiff that I can barely get out of bed. We thought we couldn't go wrong with a Serta - Wrong! We had the same mattress in our guest room (rarely used) My sister came for a visit and after one night on the Serta decided to sleep on our couch.
