Double tempered sounds a little gimmicky for pocket coils...technically you can only temper steel once.  Sometimes interactive coils are listed as double tempered as the coils are tempered individually and then the whole innerspring system gets baked later on so that the helical wires and border wires, etc, can all be tempered as well.  Higher gauge technically means thinner wire...perhaps they meant lower gauge but did not articulate this correctly.  And I find it incredibly hard to believe that the coils are actually nested by hand if there is a foam encased edge.  I would ask them how their coils are held together.  If the fabric pockets themselves are glued together one to the next...then it isn't hand nested.

I tried doing some searching Jim and I couldn't find anything.  Only a review on this website (or thread rather) and...

Ever hear of Summerhill and Bishchop by Ortho in Los Angeles? They say their pocket coils are double-tempered steel, higher gauge than Simmons and hand nested with high density foam along the edges creating a chamber within which the pocket coils are placed. Seems to me this might lend itself to mattress surgery but I'm not sure.

Hi Budgy, I got this from the Ortho web site but as with most mattress co's they don't go into great detail about things:

But here's my question for you:

Out of Stearns & Foster and Simmons which do you think is the better coil design?

S&F's higher end uses an Intellicoil design (spring within spring, the spring in the center is a light gauge spring and the outer spring is heavier gauge.) Intuitively this looks like a great design but ?? Do you have any feedback or experience on it?

Simmons' higher end has 2 options: Either a higher coil count of up to 1000 and/or a dual coil system with a lighter gauge indiv....

now that we have had more time with it to garner some response it has been pretty positive so far.  We carry the Nexgel product, its comparable to Intellibed however from what my customers have told me the pricing is more aggressive than Intellibed.  Intellibed may have a couple of different franchises...I am not sure where you are located...I believe there are three Intellibed stores in Canada and they are made for Intellibed by Park Avenue Furniture.  I believe there is also a few Intellibed stores in Utah and one in Texas...I have no way of verifying who makes the product for them...although the signage and everything looks identical to the Canadian counterparts so I think its fair to say there is some cooperation.

Both Nexgel (orthogel) and Intellibed (Intelligel) the gel is made by Edizone, and then distributed wherever.

The Intelligel product is shaped like...

Another thing that they do is build hinged mattresses in any size.  Hinged so that they fold and can fit through smaller spaces.  ALL of the king mattresses are hinged, and there is no extra charge to hinge any other size.  You can also get a split box spring in any size, for added cost.

For flammability reasons, they have restricted the amount and type of customizations they will do to specific models now.  As it was explained to me, each and every configuration has to be government-tested for flammability, and OMF has thus elected to standardize on certain configurations.   One feature that bit the dust as a result of this was the double row of foam cylinder edge supports that they used to offer.

There is no price haggling.  The price is the price.  No cash discount, either.  They only way to get it for...

Original Mattress Factory, if you are within driving distance of them.  Their Ultra Firm or Firm  Orthopidec mattress sets are great, and sell for $779 + tax.

If you want a coil mattress, that is.

Imperial Bedding of Huntington WV and other smaller regional companies like that might be better than the big national S brands.  People have posted lists of coil mattress manufacturers here.  I always plug Imperial because I own one of theirs from the late '80s and I've tried their #604 at a local store and I like it.  They make 2-sided mattresses.

Just in case ... and since it only takes me a few minutes to list them ... these are the mattress manufacturers in my list in Quebec. I doubt the last 3 would have anything suitable for you but the rest may be worth looking at.

Sterns and Foster Latex - where are they?! - esil19
Apr 22, 2011 3:41 PM
Hi All ~

I am interested in finding a few specific Sterns and Foster mattresses in Northern California. I was in Southern Ca and through process of elimination was told of some good possible mattresses for myself that I have listed below. I wasn't able to see them and I wanted to ask if anyone can help or give me advice as to how to locate them up here, for I haven't been able to. I had gotten the Simmons Black Series Carrissa (from Mancini's), which is with the NxG Memory Foam, but boy does it heat up. Because of my skin sensitivities I am looking for latex and I'm told that the few listed below are.

I appreciate all the help...

Latex mattress in the UK - perchancetodream

Hello all,

I’m in the UK and looking for an all natural latex mattress with a soft, supportive feel. Unfortunately, there is currently extremely limited choice of latex mattresses here and I have not been able to find any natural Talalay mattresses at all. There is a sprinkling of online stores selling 100% natural Dunlop mattresses imported from Germany and Switzerland. The main names are Prolana and Dormiente, however I’ve been unable to find independent user reviews of either of these brands with the exception of a couple of threads on http://www.schlafkampagne.de which did not seem to be exactly positive. Two posters reported tossing and turning all night long and waking up with back pain. The models I’ve considered are:

with a single 14cm (5.5”) latex core...
