Yet another bad experience with Kingsdown

My wife and I were given a new Sterns and Foster mattress as a wedding present in 2002. Three and a half years later the body impressions became intolerable. I went through the standard denial of warranty process which seems to be industry standard. The mattress retailer claimed that the body impressions were a result of the innerspring supports, so we decided to go with an all-foam mattress - the Kingsdown. This mattress was absolutely perfect for the first four months, then the body impressions first became noticeable. I religiously turned the mattress every month to no avail. When lying on this mattress now, five years later, and we literally sink nearly half way down. My wife and I have both had spinal fusion surgeries and have been waking in considerable pain every morning. Like many of the other reviewers, I had a worthless customer service experience. All in all, I suggest passing these folks by.

Pros:

Mattress is very light - light enough to remove from the bed frame and carry to the trash pickup without assistance
It's rectangular - I've saved thousands of dollars over the life of the mattress from not having to buy hexagonal sheets

Cons:

Body impressions develop after less than six months
Kingsdown's seems to refuse nearly all warranty claims

As some of you already know the mattress is not what you thought you were buying. Ours started sagging where both of us sleep after 2 years, but I waited another year before I made my first call. I was told from(Mattress Firm) that it shouldn't get any worse. We thought it was a memory foam mattress that was not suppose to sag or leave indentions. My husband and I are not large people. We barely weight 300lbs together. We were not told any of this info regarding "the bed is designed to conform to your body instead of your body conforming to the bed". "It's designed to cradle your body and relieve pressure". This is what the Claims Department told me. I can tell you that it does not relieve pressure. I get up EVERY morning hurting because of the pressure to my hips and back. They sent out an inspector from US Quality Inspection to check and measure our mattress. You can guess, he couldn't find anything wrong. It supposedly did not sag more than 11/2 inches. I know for a fact and I do have pictures that in different places it measured 2 inches. Needless to say, I am not a happy consumer of the Kingsdown Crown mattress. I will continue complaining to the company.

Pros:

I like nothing about this mattress. It was a very expensive mistake.

Cons:

The sagging and unrecoverable indentions. You can see the indentions after the bed is made with a very thick comforter. The manufacturer will not stand behind the warranty. The mattress is not worth the money. This mattress is guaranteed for 10 years, so I guess I will make a new claim each year until they decide to honor their warranty.

We have owned this bed for just over a year, after 6 months noticeable dipping in the mattress with a huge hump in the middle, we bought the kingsize. I have a medium support and my husband has firm support, neither sides support anything. We are both suffering back and neck pain from the bed and have not had a good nights sleep in months. Contacted Kingsdown and they referred us back to the supplier, Art Van - they sent a service person out and he told us we had a quarter of an inch to go before it was considered defective. I don't think it will break down that 1/4" to allow us to exchange. Has gotten so that we are now researching for a new bed and willing to toss this one to the curb..
