Latex mattress love

I recently purchased a latex mattress from Sleepez online. I did some VERY extensive research on the mattress options, and determined that the 100% natural latex pads sounded like the most logical choice. (I read a lot of these reviews, too!) I then visited local furniture stores to look at them- only to find that their latex mattresses were made of maybe 1 layer of natural latex and several layers of synthetic foams - nowhere near as durable- but in the $2000 range nonetheless. I finally found a local distributor of the natural latex mattress, so I visited her to test the real product. I was sold- but she is a 'middle man' and Sleepez had the better price by a few hundred dollars, even with shipping.
I decided on this type of mattress because 1) it is biodegradable, organic, not treated w/ chemicals 2) no gimmicky air bladders or pumps to have issues with. My dad likes his Select Comfort air bed, but he does have to 'refill' it to proper level regularly and still has back pain, tho less. 3) Latex is not temperature sensitive like memory foam which may make you sleep too hot & I didn't even want to chance that. 4) very long lifespan noted in all the testimonials 5) price was competitive with all the other 'quality' mattresses I looked at.
I am 52, 5'10" and 200 lbs. I have always had low back pain in the morning. Also, I sleep on my side and woke up every hour or so to turn over because that side would hurt so much- pressure point I guessed.
I purchased the Queen 1300, 4 layers, firm med, med, soft - what a dream bed! My husband made the box foundation for about $130. From the 1st night on - NO morning backach, NO tossing from side to side to relieve pressure pains. I believe I could have gotten the same benefit with just a 3 layer bed also, but I feel like a queen in this big bed. The latex is soft, but very dense & supportive. The purchase was completely hassle-free.
The perfect bed turned out to be the simplest, plainest, most healthy one.

Pros:
Absolute comfort, easy purchase, no gimmicks, no backaches. No need to 'turn' it every so often. What a relief in every sense.

Cons:
None!

I recently bought a Dormia latex, and for the money, it's not as good as the Sleepez bed of comparable layers. I found Sleepez after I purchased my Dormia, rats! I am impressed with the quality, the zippered covers, the ability to switch layers for ultimate comfort. I don't think anyone can beat it for the price. Top quality latex, several price ranges to choose from, excellent customer service, good prices [the best for what they offer]. No struggles to find just the 'right' bed, esp. for couples that share a bed, you can customize EACH side. I had a twin latex topper made for my girl's too-firm spring mattress, but soon I will take that topper and they can use it [with discount] to make her a complete latex bed. I can't say enough about this company. I took a stack of cards and tell everyone, esp. my chiropractor and spine surgeon, about this product.
I feel the same about this company as I do my Steinway grand 7 ft. piano--thrilled! That's saying a lot!

Pros:
Everything~~the zippered top of cotton/wool, the ability to switch layers to find the right fit, family owned and run with care, customer service, great prices, longevity of the product [should last 20 yrs or more].

I bought this product at the end because SleepEx had 20 ILD foam. I thought 14 would be too soft (offered by MemoryFoam.com) and 28 too firm. I was proven right about the former but not the latter. 28 is still very soft and supportive. I'd be tempted to use 28 as a top layer.

The foam all arrived in excellent condition. It was packaged very protectively. I could have done without some of the excessive tape but I guess it's probably friendliest to the foam.

As others have mentioned, its a bit of a trick to assemble by yourself but given 30 minutes or so, you can do it.

I also found the cover and wool/cotton top to be quite nice. Maybe even better then I expected. It's soft and adds one more layer of comfort. It is a snug fit around the foam.

So far my wife and I both like the mattress very much. Considering the nicer spring mattresses (some which use PU foam) cost 2x the price of this mattress, it's an excellent value. Time will tell how it lasts but it's really just latex and a cover so it'll wear as well as latex will wear. It has exceeded my comfort expectations so far . One thing I'll recommend is for folks to try the 8500. I think the smaller layer of 20 and the 28 undernear would provide more then adequate comfort and support.

Pros:
Latex arrived in exellent condition, cover is good quality. 20ILD just right for a soft layer.

Cons:
Store a little flakey (but mostly good). High return fee. Unpacking was messy, a bit of a chore. No instructions

I got the Medium/Firm/X-firm combo stacked in that order (Medium on top). I am a bigger guy and the coil mattress I had for the previous 10 years was ultra firm, so I figured the more firm ILDs were the way to go. I am very happy with the firmness.

The foam was really nice. Clearly labelled, clean, well seamed, well cut, and well packaged.

It came in two boxes about 50 pounds each, tightly rolled up and double wrapped. The boxes are strong and held up very well in shipping. With all the protection, the shipper would have to push the boxes off a cliff to damage the foam in transit.

The cover itself is single sided, which is fine since there is no reason to flip the mattress. I like that it is just lightly quilted like a regular mattress cover. It's only about 1/4" thick on top so it doesn't interfere with the feel of the latex. The cover seems to be pretty well made overall. I think it will stand up over time. Of course it is replacable anyway if something happened to it.

The hardest part was putting it together... getting all the foam positioned on the cover in the right place. That would be a lot easier with two people (which I didn't have) or if I had better access to the other side of the bed. With the cover zipped up (zipping it up was much easier than I expected it to be), it looks just like any standard non-pillowtop mattress.

Overall I am very pleased with the purchase, especially considering it was only $1025 shipped. It should really last forever too, so it is a great value compared to the junk I could buy locally in the same price range.

Pros:
Great price! It is a lot better than a $2500 store bought mattress and customizable. I can also replace just a single part if something wears out (like the cover), so I don't see ever having to replace the whole thing.

Cons:
A bit hard to put together the Queen for one person... splitting the foam in half (I think that is an option) down the middle would make this at least 10x easier. I

First of all I have to say that this mattress far exceeded my expectations in every category. I've had chronic back pain for years and especially during the past year. I've been sleeping on a Ca King water bed during the last 20 years so all I needed to do was replace the mattress itself and the Select Sleep Latex mattress fit perfectly in the water bed frame.

I've done much research during the past year especially on this forum which was the most helpful. The review that finally put it all together for me was the first one by jag for this mattess (Thanks jag, great review!). It's hard to measure up to jags review of this mattress but let me just say that I agree 100% with everything in jag's review. I never thought a mattress could make such a big difference concerning chronic back pain but after a week, 20 years of chronic back pain is completely gone. It's now been 4 months since purchase and I'm now restfully sleeping throughout the night like I was when I was 10 years old.

After reading all the horror stories on this forum about purchasing a mattress, I was hesitant to make a mattress purchase online. But since this mattress is composed of soft, medium and firm layers that can be combined in any order for a customized comfort level, there was little risk that I would need to return the mattress due to the wrong firmness. It was a little cumbersome to put all the pieces together but it was certainly well worth the effort. Everything fit together perfectly and the quality is high in every aspect of this mattress.

In conclusion, I have to say that this is the best money that I have ever spent on a mattress and I would find it hard to believe that any other mattress could offer a better value.
