After many years of one bad mattress after another, I did not want to get my hopes up when ordering this mcroskey. But I took the gamble and ordered it sight unseen (after much research) upon getting it I love the way it felt right away, it just felt right, but the true test would be that night sleeping on it, I was ready to accept an adjustment period of maybe a few weeks like with most mattresses when you change. But to my amazment it was perfect all night and felt as though it was made just for my body, after 2 weeks on it, I still LOVE this mattress. In my opinion it is worth every cent I paid for it, and right now I would not trade it for anything!! Its been a LONG road, but here with this mcroskey my search is finally over....pure bliss...

I was intrigued by McRoskey’s handmade mattresses since first reading about them on a parent’s network about two years ago. I had a S&F pillowtop that was too firm from the get go and then, as with many foam pillowtops, the comfort layers broke down. So, when it came time to buy a new mattress, I started doing my research and found this forum. The people on this forum proved to be invaluable in helping me, so thank you, thank you, thank you.
I live in NY and was able to go downtown to Sublime to try out McRoskey’s three middle firmness levels. I had a hard time deciding because Sublime had only the Extra Gentle set up on a box spring, which was how I planned to set it up. I guess I could have asked them to switch them around. Anyway, I spoke numerous times with the people at McRoskey and can’t say enough about their superb customer service. They took the time to explain the differences in their firmness levels in great detail and with great patience. Never, never, did I feel a high-pressure sale. Actually, they never once even asked if I wanted to purchase one. These mattresses really must sell themselves. I ultimately decided on the Gentle Firm. Shipping to NYC for a queen set was $700. I just considered it part of the price of the mattress. When the mattress arrived and was set up, the quality of materials and workmanship was quite obvious. The McRoskey Gentle Firm isn’t nearly as firm as my previous S&F pillowtop and took a while to get used to. At first, I thought I was missing the pillowtop, and considered getting a topper, but after about a month, I became used to the tufting and no longer missed the pillowtop. Now, I can’t begin to tell you how comfortable this mattress is. The innersprings are very responsive and gives incredible support, without being hard. It seemed that with my old S&F, it was the mattress that provided the support and the foam pillowtop that provided the comfort. Whereas with my McRoskey, which is made with virtually all cotton and a little polyester - NO foam, it is the mattress itself that provides both the support AND the comfort. It feels as if the mattress comes up underneath me to support me rather than me coming down on top of the mattress. I highly recommend McRoskey Airflex, from the comfort, to the material and workmanship to the customer service.
As an aside, my McRoskey mattress is only about 8” thick compared to my old pillowtop which was quite thick. The first week I slept on it, I kept thinking, "boy the ceiling seems so far away" – weird, I know, but it struck me funny.

I came to find McRoskey after making two mattress buying mistakes - pillowtops with a great deal of foam that quickly "hammocked". I have a bad back and needed a mattress that would be supportive, but I also did not want to give up on comfort.
I looked at all the premium brands, Shifman, Aireloom, Hastens and McRoskey. McRoskey was just was I was looking for. They are traditional style, flippable innerspring mattress and boxspring sets that are made without any foam. The comfort comes from their special spring system which is flexible; the mattress is supportive but not rigid.
Because I live on the East Coast and McRoskey is located in San Francisco, I made several phone calls to ask questions. McRoskey was very supportive and willing to answer any and all questions that I had. I ordered a Queen size "firm" mattress and "firm" boxspring. Shipping and delivery were easy (though not inexpensive).
I have been sleeping on my new mattress now for two weeks and I am very pleased with it. It is very well made and sleeping has been comfortable from the start.
I would highly recommend McRoskey to anyone interested in a supportive traditional style mattress. An added bonus is that McRoskey offers different firmness levels to match one's desired comfort requirements.

Just wanted to let people know our positive experience buying our Mcroskey Airflex mattress. Both my wife and I have had continuing back problems. I have had intermittent lower back pain and my wife has had neck and shoulder pain pretty consistently over the last few years. After looking at the Mcroskey store several times we finally decided to make the plunge and purchased a King-Size gentle-firm mattress. We also splurged and purchased a feather bed for the top. We found both sales people we dealt with professional and markedly different from the sales people we dealt with at any other mattress store we visited. Though the mattress itself is quite plain looking the fit and finish is extremely well done. I'm used to the standard cheap box-spring and the Mcroskey box-spring is clearly multiple levels above standard box-springs in quality, feel and manufacture. You have the option of either individual legs (eight per box-spring, or 16 for the whole mattress), or wood slats. Wood slats though are not recommended for the King-Size mattress. We ordered our mattress near Christmas and after hearing about my wife's back problems Mcroskey really tried to get fast turn-around for us and I was pleasantly suprised how fast it was delivered. I was unhappy of two things during the delivery. It was raining delivery day and the delivery people got a bit of a wet-stain on the edge of the mattress. As well, the feet on the two box-springs were clearly not lined up with each other. I'm not normally a stickler for these sorts of things but for this amount of money I felt I could expect better. After contacting Mcroskey they quickly sent a representative out who personally dried and cleaned the stain. As well, rather than just unscrewing and moving the foot posts used by the box-spring feet he insisted on having a new set of box-spring built and delivered! As well Mcroskey gave us a makeup gift of a top of the line all goose-down pillow. The new box-spring set came a week or so later and was delivered and installed by different delivery people. Now onto my thoughts on the mattress. It was immediately comfortable but definitely has a different feel from standard mattresses due to it's older fashion design. It takes a bit of getting used to. You don't get the same give that you find in most mattress when you first lie down, rather you seem to get more support. The mattress just seems to just get more and more comfortable over time. It's a total luxury now to sleep in this bed and I can't ever see myself going back to another mattress. My back pains are totally gone and my wife's shoulder pains are basically gone as well. To sum it up, I find both the bed and the Mcroskey company itself fully live up to their reputation.
