Mattress Buying Guide
Mattress Underground Sales: What To Watch Out For
When it comes to purchasing a mattress, you probably want to make sure that you are getting something comfortable and something that is reasonably priced. Still though, there are a lot of people who concentrate more on the price than how comfortable it is or even how reputable the seller is. But who really thinks to investigate the seller of a mattress? Does it even matter? The more you look into it, the more you will see that it not only matters, it is the first thing you should be looking into when you shop for mattresses.
First, you are going to want to look into the various places where mattresses are sold. Then, you will be able to learn about the various types of people or vendors you would most likely come across.
Vendors
You are going to find both large company vendors and individuals selling mattresses through ebay and craigslist. First, let's take a look at the companies that are selling mattresses through these places. Many times, the incredible deal that you are getting for a mattress is not because you have "lucked out", but rather because you are getting a refurbished mattress. This means that the mattress is not completely brand new. It has been used before. In some cases, only the top layer of fabric has been replaced so that it will look new. However, make sure that you are looking for any fine print stating that it is used, slightly used or refurbished.
There are also some cases where the mattresses are leftovers or considered "imperfect", therefore they are sold at a discounted price. For example, the stitching could can been all wrong or there could be a slight cut in the fabric that bas been sewn together, but is no longer eligible to be sold at full retail price.
Private Sales
Then there are the private individuals that may be selling their new or used mattresses. When a mattress is used, no matter where it is coming from, you have to be careful because it could contact bed bugs. These bugs will bite, can cause allergic reactions and will multiply and spread through your bedding and carpets.
Of course, then you will occasionally come across the used mattresses for sale that have hardly ever been used and come from very clean homes. Maybe it was from a guest bedroom that never really had much use. Sometimes, people will purchase one type of mattress, then decide that they would like something else so they will sell the one to get a little money to go towards the new one.
Out Of The Back Of Trucks
You have probably seen these trucks before. They pull up along the side of the road and they pull out mattresses that look new and they are still in plastic. There is no company name on the truck and if you ask, you don't seem to get a lot of information. But the mattresses look nice and they are for a cheap price, so you find it very tempting. The thing is, you have no idea where these mattresses came from.
They could have just been removed from a hotel and put in plastic. They could have been the showcase beds in a mattress store that has had tons of people crawling all over them. They could be stolen merchandise. You really do not know anything about the mattresses and you certainly will not have any warranty, anyone to call with questions and no one to call for a return. It is best to steer clear of such vendors since you never know what you are getting.
As you can see, when it comes to purchasing a mattress, something that would seem to be so simple, there really is a lot that you have to look out for. Make sure that you are taking your time to do your investigative research and that you are comparing several options especially if you are navigating the mattress underground. This way, you will be able to make sure that you are getting the very best deal possible and on a mattress that you can truly be comfortable owning.
