I've been greatly helped by many of you on this forum and changed out my mattress a couple years ago to a Sealy latex. Wish now I'd gone with FloBeds but it was not in the budget. I eventually had to do the surgery of removing the cheap top layers because of a dip on each side but the surgery did confirm it had a nice 3" latex top and a 6" dunlop latex bottom. It was way too firm after that so I added an HR eggcrate topper. That worked OK but I still awoke with pressure point pain the the hips. Then I added a Soft 20 ILD FBM 1" latex topper (which was clean and very nice)...again some relief but started feeling slight pressure point pain in the hips by morning since I'm a side sleeper. Researched the forum some more and thought a 22 ILD Sleep Like a Bear LI blended Tallaly 1" topper would be the final solution. (They said their ILD numbers were different and softer than the FBM and recommended I try it.)Two weeks of use and still get the discomfort around 5AM...and toss and turn until I get up. It goes away almost immediately as soon as I'm up. This configuration is soooo much better that anything in the past but I'd love to not awaken because of pain that only increases the longer I lay in bed. (My back and shoulders are fine since my layers seem to have the right support there).

My question: Would trading the 22 ILD topper for a 19 make a real difference? Does anyone have a 14 ILD topper from Sleep Like a Bear? I don't want to make a mistake and send anything back again. I have about a week left to make a decision and return it.

Thanks in advance for your help...you're a great bunch!

How thick is your eggcrate topper? I'm wondering how many inches of toppers, total, you have. Rather than swapping out a 1" 20-22 ILD topper for a 14 or 19 ILD topper, I wonder if you need to add one more inch of soft topper, instead.

You might be bottoming out on the 1" topper and feeling the one below it.

I have a 1" 24 ILD topper from Sleep Like a Bear, and I like it, but my shoulders bottomed out on it (hips were OK).  I've since added more toppers -- I have a 1" thick fiber-bed and a thing that's sort of like shredded latex (see the Oodles topper thread started by SKeeter) -- so I have several inches of topper now, and my bed is nice & cushy for side-sleeping. I'm now having trouble getting out of bed in the morning....

As anyone ever found two inches of 20-22 ILD TI Latex to not relieve pressure points and be a bit too firm? That is why I was wondering if I need to trade down to 14....

I agree with Catherine. Get another 20 ILD 1" topper. It's always better to add comfort layers in small increments because it gives you more leaway to fine tune. Sometimes you get to the point where just 1" of something is too much and you end up with back pain from lack of support, so it's much easier to find your comfort zone when you can add or take away just a little bit at a time.

20 ILD is very soft and it will actually feel softer in time. If you are still experiencing hip pain you're probably bottoming out and feeling the firmer layers beneath. There isn't much noticible difference between 19 and 22 ILD. Cores usually have a range within a single piece that can span 4 points. It's really hard to find latex much softer than 20 these days. The reason: Vendors got too many returns because the cores compressed and flattened out. It just doesn't hold up well.
