I'm looking for ideally an innerspring mattress with no motion transfer; that said, if i can't find one, will a latex/foam topper help with that issue?

Look into pocket coils. They're said to reduce the motion transfer because each coil moves independently. On the down side they don't last as long as offset coils and some people with lower back issues might not find pocket coils (also known as Marshall coils) supportive enough to be comfortable.

Latex or memory foam toppers over innersprings don't reduce motion transfer to a significant degree. A standard topper isn't thick enough to make a difference and you're still lying on a base of springs.

Thanks, Cloud9. I've been reading about the pocket coils, thought they were--at first--the answer, but now i see that they wear out very fast (because they're not tempered) and that the bed can sag due to lack of support.

So, besides Simmons, which isn't known for their longevity, are there any *recommended* mattresses with the pocket coils? I read about Englander, but even those don't seem to hold up great...

I feel like i had some great sleeps on good, offset-coil beds...but i can't remember how motion-free they were.
