'S' brand refers to the big three - Sealy, Simmons and Serta (Stearns and Foster is part of Sealy).
Macy's beds - I've seen Posturepedics, Perfect Sleepers, Beautyrests, S&F's, 'Hotel Collection'. Around memorial, they had 2011 model Posturepedics up well over $1k in twin. Then in July, they had same beds well under $1k. Weird as Memorial Day is thee sales time of the year.
Macy's sells multiple brands. I don't think they are 'higher quality' than like, Sleep Train here. Macy's Stearns and Foster's are the same as Sleep Train's, just different names. That's a well known trick used in the mattress industry.
-------------------------------------
One huge thing about buying a bed ---- Make sure you can get a refund on your first set, know the terms and how much restocking fee if not satisfied.
#2 - If they offer 'exchange' to another set if not satisfied, most likely, that second set will be yours for good. I would never do an exchange again. If I don't like the first mattress, I get the money back. Period. (I have a one monthy old $1500 Serta icomfort sitting in living room I'm going to have to pawn off for hopefully $100, or I may have to pay $80 to dump it, it's too soft).
