I was originally going to buy a 4" 5LB memory foam topper and add that on top of an existing spring mattress or latex base.  But I have a spring mattress I can use as a base for now - may get foam base later down the line.  Since having read through a few posts - I'm now considering getting 2" of 5LB Memory Foam and underneath that 2" of Latex.  From what I gather from reading other's posts - anything more than 2" of memory foam can cause back issues.   I don't need any more of them so I'm thinking the originally planned 4" 5LB of memory foam could present some issues.  So does 2" memory + 2" of latex + cheap spring mattress as base seem like a decent plan?  Or maybe 3" of memory foam + 1" latex or some other combination?

I'm looking at sleepwarehouse.com and foambymail.com.  Sleepwarehouse.com is more expensive but do they have that much better quality of a product?

This might be a reasonable plan, but I have no idea what your spring mattress is like.   How firm is it?  What are your objectives?

The sleepwarehouse latex in dunlop (which tends to feel firmer than talalay), so 28-30 would be pretty firm.  I would probably go with the softer one.  FBM 20 is probably firmer than the rating indicates, and it is probably okay for a firmer topper below the memory foam.   For a talalay topper, you probably want something in the 19-24 range, assuming you are looking for comfort for side sleeping.

My guess is that the Sensus is better quality, but I don't really know anything about the FBM memory foam.

If you are looking to add just a bit of softness, I would probably just order 2" of the memory foam first and see if that is enough before buying latex.   Really hard to give much advise without more information.

Yeah - I had considered just grabbing the 2" of memory foam to see.  Isn't the Sensus with a better warranty too?  Probably better not to go with the cheaper unknown FBM mem foam.
