Need Some Help w/ Latex Mattress Purchase!!!

There is a lot of good info on the forums here!  I was about to purchase a Tempurpedic Cloud Luxe when I changed my mind for a few reasons:  sleeps hot (wife will not tolerate this well), reports of memory foam not working well for folks with bad backs (my wife and I both both have bad backs, and she has fibromyalgia), and of course, the price is ridiculous!

So now I am looking at latex. We are not large people (she is 4' 9" and 92 lbs, I am 5' 8" and 190 lbs), she does not sleep well, and my pattern due to my job only allows me approx. 5 to 6 hours a night.  I also may have the beginning symptoms of peripheral neuropathy (hands fall asleep in bed, occassionally exytended tingling and minor numbness throughout the morning).

So  I am willing to pay for a top of the line mattress that will give my wife (and I) some comfort and a goods night sleep.  However, while I don't mind investing in this purchase, I do want to make absolutely sure that I am getting the most value for my money (i.e.: I'll buy that top of the line product, but I will comparison shop to make sure I find it at the lowest possible price).  I am also planning on a split king adjustable foundation, so my wife and I can both adjust our sides separately (I was looking at the Reverie Deluxe...I don't need the massage but the 13"+ mattresses don't work on the standard Reverie models).

Based on the posts I have read, SleepEZ sounds like a reputable dealer and while not cheap, they do seem to offer a lot for the price.  However, the custom options leave me a bit uncertain where to start.  Generally speaking, we like a very soft immersive feel to our mattresses, but we do need support due to our backs.

SleepEZ 13,000 model?

Blended Talalay or 100% Natural Talalay?

Where to start with the 4 firmness options for each of the 4 layers?

Anybody know if the ErgoMotion adjustable beds through SleepEZ are in fact the Reverie beds (Reverie badges their beds as Ergo for Tempurpedic)?

Any other options I should consider besides SleepEZ?

Thanks so much for any help!

I guess I was just looking for anything that was reasonably close to SF or area code 415 rather than Burlingame or San Mateo and south. There are 2 though, the Naturally Organic Sleep in Burlingame and a Sleepworld outlet that would probably give you everything that you need.

I feel that my not-too-good English came to play here. In saying: "few of these are", I meant to say it in a positive way!

A few of the retailers on your list are near enough [I am 20 minutes from San Francisco], and I am planning on going there next week to do some "field work".

Thanks again

I'm glad!

I think that some field testing is really important to get a sense of what works for you so it's great that you'll have a chance to try some latex out.

If you find a few makes and models that seem particularly suitable and you or the salesperson don't know what is in them (hopefully the salesperson will), just post them here so we can help you find out the layering that you like.

No, it's a list I put together from my research that I have to look through as it's not yet as well organized as I would like it to be. If you (or someone else) says where you are, I'm happy to take a look and see what is in it that may be close or appropriate.

Do you have information on any companies in the New Orleans area?

Phoenix,

I too am looking for a comfortable night's sleep. We live in Montclair, NJ. Do you know of any great retailers in the area? New York City is just as easy as parts of New Jersey for us. For the past 14 years or so we've been sleeping on an Aireloom mattress. It was great for a long time. But now I wake with back aches and am not sleeping well. From all that I am reading, am now thinking latex would be the better value, better comfort route for us. I've been reading through your many posts and you seem to know more tan just about anyone. So what is your recommendation? Thanks so much!

Saintsfan,

There's not a whole lot around New Orleans that I know about but these should help a bit ...

http://www.roomstogo.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=StoreList&c=new%20orleans&s=LA&r=1&loc=29.9574000,-90.0769000 Retailer. The only mattress they have listed online that I would consider to be worth using as a "testing ground" would be the Sealy embody series which are latex over poly.

http://www.fraenkel.com/contact.htm Regional Manufacturer. They make Englander and their own line called "Sleep System USA" both of which include latex mattresses however they don't sell retail. Would be worth a phone call to find out which retail outlets in your area may carry them.

http://www.pelicanmattress.com/ Local manufacturer. They don't have much information on their website about exactly what they make and are in Baton Rouge but I would certainly call them to see if they make latex mattresses and if they are available in New Orleans.

http://www.taylorbedding.com/store_locator.html Regional manufacturer. They make Lady Americana and their own brand called Morning Glory both of which include latex. They also don't sell direct but do have a retail outlet finder on their site that shows retail outlets in New Orleans.

http://www.ashleyfurniturehomestore.com/storelocator/storelist.aspx?countrycode=USA&country=United%20States&zip=70118 Manufacturer/Retailer. They make their own brand called Ashley Sleep which includes 3 models with Talalay latex over polyfoam. They all have only 1/2" - 1" of poly in the comfort layer which is reasonable and would give you a decent idea of what latex feels like. I have the specs of all 3 if you like one of them and would like to "duplicate" it. The St Tropez has 3" of 14 ILD (very soft) latex over 2" of 19 ILD (with an inch of poly over it). The other 2 use 19 ILD latex over 28 ILD latex in their top layers. I wouldn't consider any of the others they carry and sell retail.

http://www.bassettfurniture.com/furniture-stores.asp Manufacturer. They are a subsidiary of Sealy and make their Bassett and Carrington Chase mattresses. Their Total Rest firm latex model has 1.5" of poly over the latex which is a little over what I think is "appropriate" and the other 2 Total Rest have over 4" of poly which I wouldn't even consider but I'm including them in case you want to try them out. All 3 have a latex core.

http://www.beddingplusmattress.com/new-orleans/ Retailer. They carry Jamison mattresses some of which have latex without polyfoam over it and some which have an inch or two of polyfoam over their latex. The specs of the jamison mattresses are on the Jamison site.

Sorry I don't know about more but these and the retail outlets they lead to should give you enough to get a good feel for what latex feels like.

Sleepy,

Here are some retail and manufacturer outlets for NJ but I will leave you to "sort through it" to see which may be near enough to justify a visit. I would certainly call the ones you are considering first to make sure that they have something close to what you are looking for. I tend to avoid "recommendations" except in a generic way (such as I prefer local, regional manufacturers, and online manufacturers of latex mattresses) but I'm happy to help in giving people more choices and places to do some field testing and more research.

http://www.mycustombedding.com/contact/info_2.html Local manufacturer. Make a range of latex and other mattresses.

http://gohfw.com/map_and_directions.htm Retailer. Carries Corsicana which has several "partly latex" mattresses.

http://theorganicnest.com/storeinfo.php Retailer. Carry what look like land and sky mattresses which are Dunlop latex.

http://www.mattressstorenyc.com/default.asp Retailer. Carry several smaller "national" brands some of which make latex mattresses. Call first to ask specific questions about whether they have what you are looking for.

http://www.thebedroomgalleries.com/contactus.html Retailer. Carry Englander, WJ Southard, And Sensa, all of whom make latex mattresses.

http://www.lemoynesleeper.com/locations.html Regional manufacturer. Makes latex mattresses and has a retail outlet finder which includes NJ outlets on website.

http://www.bondbedding.com/ Local manufacturer. They make hand made innerspring/natural fiber mattresses.

http://www.mattressfac.com/ Local manufacturer. Makes a range of mattresses including latex.

http://www.chiromatic.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=12&Itemid=15 Local manufacturer. Makes latex mattresses but work "on appointment" only which usually is a code for "expensive".

http://www.eastmanhousemattress.com/factory.html National manufacturer. Makes latex mattresses and may well be worth calling a regional licensee listed to find a retail oulet near you.

http://www.shifmanmattresses.com/retailers/ National manufacturer. Based in NJ. Has a retail outlet finder on their site.

http://www.whitelotus.net/retail-locations.html Regional manufacturer. Based in NJ. Makes all latex mattresses as well as other natural mattresses.

http://www.sleepys.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/LocateStores Retailer. Carries pure latex bliss latex mattresses

http://www.sunrisemattress.com/Showroom_Locations.html Retailer. Carries OMI latex mattresses.

http://www.hollandiaus.com/locations_us.asp Manufacturer from Israel. Some interesting latex mattresses

http://www.ashleyfurniturehomestore.com/storelocator/StoreList.aspx?countrycode=USA&country=United%20States&statecode=NJ&state=New%20Jersey Manufacturer. Carries 3 models of latex with a poly core mattress

http://www.duxiana.com/us_en/locate_duxiana.shtml Manufacturer. Makes high end mattresses

I'll post a list for NY a little later.

Hi,

I searched all last summer for a latex mattress for my son.  I wanted something organic that would not off-gas.  I finally purchased a futon type mattress through   http://www.greenmattressfactory.com/organic-futon-mattresses.html.  They were very helpful, calling me and explaining on the phone after I e-mailed them late at night.  I am very pleased with the mattress.  It is very comfortable and I am very picky about the cushioning of my mattresses.  They offer a 20 year warranty and a 90 day comfort guarantee.  They even offer free shipping.  Check them out.

I would be very careful and do some homework before you purchase from this outlet. Do a search on this forum for "greenmattressfactory" and then some further research into some of the other links you will find so that you are making an "educated" purchase.

Here's a few more for New York for you. Between this and NJ you have a "few" choices :). I haven't repeated some of the larger retail outlets such as sleepys or ashley home furnishings in this list.

Phoenix

http://www.buffalomattress.com/contact.php Retailer. Carry Restonic which makes latex mattresses

http://www.citymattress.com/locations.asp Retailer. Carries a range of mattresses including latex but I would use them for testing only as some of them (prana sleep expecially) I believe are way overpriced.

http://www.longsbedding.com/mattressesandboxsprings.html Manufacturer. Sells a wide range of latex mattresses including some very high end, hand made brands. They include Relyon, Aireloom, Englander, Natura, Therapedic, Vera wang (Serta) and their own house brand. Most of these have latex models.

http://olendermattress.com/locations/locations.html Retailer. Carries Englander latex and possibly others. Website has little information except to say they have been in business for a long time.

http://www.roomandboard.com/rnb/more_ways_to_shop/stores/store_locations.ftl Carries a range of latex mattresses made by Restwell including a version where you can choose your own layers.

http://www.woodstockorganicmattress.com/contact/ Retailer. Carries WJ Southard matttresses including latex and latex combinations

http://www.lemoynesleeper.com/locations.html Manufacturer with a range of latex and latex combination mattresses. Has a list of retail outlets in NY on website.

http://www.midwoodmattress.com/index.html Retailer. They have little information on the site about what they carry but they do say they can customize a mattress for size. Probably mainly "S" brands but may be worth a call to see.

http://www.sleepmastermattress.net/locations/index.html Manufacturer. Make WJ Southard, Bemco, as well as their own line of latex mattresses. Sell factory direct.

http://www.sleepmattress.com/contact_us.html Manufacurer. While they don't appear to make latex mattresses, they do seem to make some good value mattresses in the low/mid range.

http://www.comfortbeddinginc.com/contact.asp Manufacturer. Make a wide range of mattresses although they don't appear to make any latex. Sells factory direct

http://www.dixiefoam.com/mattresses.htm Local manufacturer. Makes latex and latex combination mattresses

http://www.jamestownmattress.com/locations.php Local manufacturer. Makes a range of mattresses including all latex

http://keetsa.com/about/showroom/ Manufacturer. Mostly memory foam and polyfoam but they do have a latex.innerspring model. Seem to have toned down their website lately with a little less "greenwashing".

http://www.magniflex.us/showroom.html Manufacturer. Italy based with mostly memory foam but does cary a poly/latex blended foam mattress. A little "gimmicky" for my taste but may be perfect for someone else.

http://www.restonic.com/contactus.php National manufacturer. Made by regional licensees who each can make them differently. In some areas they make all latex, in some they put polyfoam over their latex.

http://www.chbeckley.com/contactus.html Local manufacturer. Makes a range of mattresses with including latex and horsehair. Tend to be on the firm side based on reviews I've read.

http://furniturenyc.net/contact_us.html Retailer. Carries Therapedic, Gold Bond, and King Koil all of which make mattresses with latex in them. Check specs for poly if you go here.

http://scottjordan.com/location/ Retailer. Carries Berkeley Ergonomic matresses which include all latex and microcoil mattresses.

http://www.1800mattress.com/UI/General/Storelocator.aspx Retailer. This is one of their few showrooms. Carries Classic sleep (poly/Dunlop latex) and Pure Latex Bliss (all couture collection and both latex toppers)

http://www.hastens.com/en/STORES/USA/New-York/Hastens-Store-SoHo/ High end mattress manufacturer. Makes one of the world's most expensive mattresses.
