Yup, that looks like a Sealy alright! Only, mine had very thin - about 1/4" memory foam - instead of that white plastic-like foam yours has next to the springs.
Just cheap junky foam inside... pretty amazing isn't it? It's like "Just HOW cheap and junky can we make this thing??"

Your latex looks very nice. Is that the Natural Talalay from Rocky Mountain? Looks very uniform and nice. That's the medium? Nevermind, I'll look in your other post, I know it's there.

If you knew me you'd know that I am making a small book of these posts and pics and taking them to our "high-end" mattress shops, we have a few. Get a Mattress is the newest and they have $20,000 beds. Ya, wouldn't you love to take a peak in there??
Can we please start an exchange/buying club on here. Some of you have stuff you don't want, I'd LOVE it. I have latex I don't want....

I don't understand why some company doesn't just put 3" of good foam and a decent cover and sell it that way? 3" of latex from Rockymountain costs $320 (queen). That is retail including shipping. Yes, that is one 3" piece but I don't think their costs would be any different for 2 1.5" pieces of different firmness since they buy in quantity.
Put on a nice cotton / wool top for $200 - retail. They will save something on the junk they don't include, so the total cost would be less than $500 more. So, this $800 mattress set could be sold for $1300 with much better quality on top. Yeah, the box springs, etc. aren't the greatest, but still it would be a decent quality mattress.

Although I bought the 100% latex mattress from "Gardner Mattress" located in Massachusetts, they sell many handmade spring mattresses. My second choice from Gardner was their "Ivory Plush Top". This mattress has their standard lace tufted base (springs and box springs) with "2 or 3 inches of talalay latex" as the top layer. It is all covered in an ivory damask cover. This sounds pretty much like the mattresses some of you folks are trying to build yourself.
Although I have nothing to do with Gardner Mattress, they seem to build mattresses the old fashion way and make a darn nice bed. The company is struggling to survive in the age of "Sleepy's", etc. Their prices are higher than the cheap S brands of course.

Thanks Mark, do you know what they charge for the queen innerspring with 2-3" of latex? It would be interesting to know how that compares to the S prices.
I think that one problems is that people don't want to pay more than $1000 or something like that. I don't think you can sell a "decent" quality mattress for that price and make a profit.
It does seem like you could make a decent quality (no PU, some latex) queen size for $1300-1500 and make a profit.
Some of the upper end S brands do sell for more than $1300 and they still have junk foam (just more of it). Maybe they will throw in an inch of latex, but why not have one with just latex, maybe 1" of quality memory foam?

I clicked on the illustrations of the latex mattress with coils, that looks really nice. But delivery from east to the west of US probably costs too much!!!

I forget what the actual price was for that mattress set. I want to say somewhere in the $1500-1700 range. My latex was listed at $2399 and I got it for $1999. after dealing with the owner of the business. I know the spring mattresses were ALL less than the latex mattresses with foundation. In any event, they are all custom built to order and thus more than in the local furniture stores.
Yes, these are probably for the New England market only, but it shows what CAN be done locally.

My Cannon futon with springs, is made in the USA, $300 to my door. They also make "made-to-order" mattresses as do MANY companies. Took 2 weeks for the hay smell to go away but it's the best, cheapest "base" with 2 inchs of latex from Overstock, while it's not my cup of tea it sure is working for my daughter. I admire the do-it-yourself, repurpose attitude on this site! More power to all of us!

Updated photos of Walmart wool filled topper (about 6.5 lb.s, 1- 1.25" inch thick). Also, zoning piece of latex from foamonline. Clearer inferior to the rockymountainmattress 100% talalay. The foamonline is suppose to come Latex International, but from the photos I would say not. Might even be 100% synthetic. Seems like it is less than the 24 ILD is suppose to be. Not too happy with the quality (also only 1.75" thick - suppose to be 2"). The rockymountain is a generous cut, at a bit over 2", so there is a bit of a height difference.
In use though the zone worked as it should. Definitely softer with less pressure. At first I did not think it made a huge difference, but when I lie on the other side of the bed I can definitely notice a significant difference.

Foamonline gave a short cut of 1.75", rockymountain a generous cut of over 2":
