Many thin layers perform the same as one thick?

I am considering one THICK 6" layer of Lux-HQ for a base on a DIY Full Size mattress. However, I can save money if I get two 2" sheets of 6" Lux-HQ from FD and cut it up like this:

- One 2" 54x75 sheet

- Two 2" 27x75 sheets side by side

- One 2" 54x75 sheet

I can make a full 6" layer with two 2" layers if cut correctly. Will performance and/or longevity be sacrificed if I go this route, vs getting a 6" sheet, cutting to size, and scrapping the rest? It'd save me $81, and give me the same total thickness of Lux-HQ.

Thanks so much!
