electracat, sorry, I just saw your post tonight and did not know you posted a question to me.
I have a FloBed Latex Mattress with a 37 ILD Extra Firm Latex Cores over a 37 ILD Extra Firm Latex Core over a 46 ILD Super Firm Latex Core (I asked Dave to find me latex cores on the high end of each firmness level) over a Pine Slat Box with 10" high legs (so I can store things under the bed since the bed to me is best with the higher legs and I have no problems getting on and off and I am not quite 5 feet tall).
The topper is from Brylane Homes since I wanted a soft topper that was 1" thick with no seam made out of Talalay Latex. The topper gives the perfect softness for my side sleeping while letting me feel the firmness layers underneath me and had just about no smell but I aired it out anyway before using like I do all my latex cores. My 37 ILD latex cores had just about no smell but some of the other cores I sent back has a slight smell (maybe from the plastic wrap or maybe some latex has a smell?) so I had to air them out for days over my banister railing . The Queen Topper was a little big so I had to cut it but it is better this way then a little small. I can even sit on the edge to put on my shoes and sit up and bed and read since the bed is very firm but with enough give that I do not get pain in my pressure points.
I also sleep with a medium soft standard sized natural Talalay Latex pillow (someone much bigger than me would need a Queen Size to have the pillow thicker but it is the perfect thickness for me) from Overstock. I had bought several of their pillows until I found two the right thickness for me. The ones not used I am using for shams. I bought a Queen Size Soft Pillow from FloBeds in a Talalay Latex Blend but it was too thick and too soft. I am using this as a Sham also and as a pillow for guests.
FloBeds tried to replace my topper with various toppers but the Dunlap one was too firm to provide the little bit of cushion I needed for side sleeping. The 1.5" Talaly Latex topper was too squishy for me and I did not like the seam it had. But I do love the feel of the latex cores I chose from FloBeds.com. I know some people love their 2" Convoluted Topper but I know others he has switched them with a firmer topper. I tried to sleep with no topper but then the bed was too firm for me and hurt my shoulders. I then tried to sleep on a softer 3" latex core and found my back hurt. Hence, the set-up I have is very comfortable for me and others that have tried my bed out love it also but recently have bought beds a few years ago so are not in the market for a new bed. I also love the zippered up cover that is so nice that they replaced for me since the first one (their former cover) was not as nice. This cover has a protected zipper that does not catch onto the latex and the cover is soft.
