Sorry for the long post.  I've been reading on this forum regarding mattresses for a few days.  I've come to the conclusion I don't want memory foam, I'm a warm sleeper and don't like the sinking feeling and most are made with regular base foam.  Also don't want a inner spring after the Sealy we had been using.  So I'm leaning towards latex.  We have a king platform bed with plywood base.  I'm trying to decide if I should build my own from FMB or go with the Costco S&F Madeline king mattress set for $1800.  My main concern with building my own is basically no warranty as it will be impossible to get it replaced from an online company where as Costco is a breeze to deal with.  I just don't want to be stuck with a $1000 sagging mattress 2 years later. 

So those that have the latex from FMB, how long have you had it for and how has it held up so far?

Will probably cost around $1000 from FMB to make a similar mattress with all the layers and covers, but would it be comprable, better or worse?

Is there better/cheaper source for latex than FMB?

Anyone have reviews on the Costco mattress?

Can you go to a CostCo "warehouse" and give that mattress a thorough test?  If so, that would be another advantage of buying from CostCo.  I can't imagine trying to buy a half dozen or more layers of different "stuff" and then try to shuffle them together into a home engineered platform to sleep on - but that's just me - I read comments from individuals that have done this and seem happy with the result and others who can't seem to get it right.

We put one topper on our waterbed mattress - a visco elastic 4.3 semi-firm three inch by Cloud9.  To the both of us it is not hot to sleep on and once we got the waterbed mattress "core" firmness properly adjusted combined with the topper it is without question to most comfortable sleep platform we could ever imagine and less expensive than any of the alternatives.

I guess if I had to choose between the packaged CostCo and buying all the little layers separately I would buy all the little layers so at least I could experiment with different combinations of firmness - to us that's the single most important adjustment you can make - firmness  - and only air inflatables and waterbed mattresses allow quick and easy adjustment of firmness - best of luck with you experimentation with bed design - keep us posted.
