Hi,

I am a new member to this forum and first would like to thank everyone for their contribution as I have learnt a lot from reading through all the posts.

I need help with my mattress purchase;

I am 5’ 10” 185 Lb and wife is 5’ 6” 155 lbs. I am mainly side and stomach sleeper and wife is back and side sleeper. We both generally like firm beds and have budget of around ~1k. Reading thru internet (mainly this forum) came to know about latex mattress and decided to give it a try.

We went to local mattress store which carries LI latex mattresses. We really liked their 8” latex firm mattress with this configuration:

6” of 36 ILD LI Talalay latex core

2” of 28 ILD LI Talalay latex topper

As the price of this bed is way out of our budget (2.5k), I am trying to see if I can create similar firmness mattress using FBM latex. This is what I am thinking of ordering from FBM;

6” firm core 33-38 ILD

1” med firm topper 32 ILD

1” soft topper 20 ILD

OR

6” of firm core 33-38 ILD

2” of med firm topper 32 ILD

Which of this configuration from FBM should give me similar feel as LI Talalay latex of above configuration?

Has anybody try putting 2” med firm LI Talalay latex topper on 6” firm FBM latex core?

Also, we have platform bed with slats and I read here that somebody used Pegwood on top to cover the slats. Is it a good idea? How much thickness I should consider?

I would appreciate if you could provide feedback to help me make this decision.

Thanks,

JB.

If you are looking for a good night's sleep, proper sleep posture is everything. Your mattress should help you obtain the proper posture for your position.

Unlesss you have diet isssues, If you look at your height and weight and then take into account your side/stomach sleep position I would surmise that you are having sleep posture issues when you are on your side.  You will need a deeper comfort layer than just an inch even if you are in the 36ILD range for your support system.  Before everything is said and done you will probably end up using a positional pillow to keep you in proper position on your side. This is usually just a small pillow in front of your torso to keep straight on your side rather than in between positions.
