I finally decided (7 mattresses in11 months) on a Costco spring type Cadbury, for now anyway...

First two weeks wonderful, now back  pain, of course.   I want to try a 1 or 2 inch latex topper on it as I really like the way I feel for about the first 6 hours of sleep, and would like to add just a slight layer of firmness...

A.  which site, other than flobeds ($400 for a topper, too much, sorry), would you recommend for latex topper, NOT foam

B. will 1 inch be enough?

SLEEP EZ says 30 day return is an option, that is great news...anybody with any other ideas let me know...for instance, on sleep ez my choices are

do i want 30-32 if i want to firm things up and do i want talalay or natural?

If your problem is the underlying foam in the mattress, then it might be hard to solve.  32 is reasonably firm, so you may want to try that.  Rockymountainmattress has pretty good prices on 32 ILD 100% natural talalay Latex International (I think you can find a code for 5% off as well, but they do NOT take returns).  They have 24ILD as well in the talalay.  They also have dunlop in lower ILDS than the talalay, but dunlop tends to be a bit firmer.  Most seem to prefer the talalay, especially on the top layer.

Sleeplikeabear has a wide selection of thickness and ILDs, but a bit more expensive.   They have blended or 100%.  They have a 30 day return policy, but you will lose a bit on shipping and restocking.  Sleepez also is a place to try, but they charge $49 shipping.

I think 100% natural is a bit better than blended, but for 1" I don't think much of a differnce.  I would start with 1" if you just want a slight change.  Again, not sure it will solve a problem of the underlying foam being an issue.

I have also found that a 1.5" wool topper that I bought at walmart.com does seem to make mine feel a little firmer (less sinking in).

Randy, we have to eventually get you in a stable situation.  I am not sure what you really need, but you seem to come back to innersprings.   You might be a candidate for a high end innerspring like Royal Pedic.  Well made, not cheap foams, but expensive.  Not sure if you can try any in your area.   Otherwise, you may need to buy a basic (but high coil count) mattress and put in your own foam.

Also, I am not sure if there are any custom comfort stores near you, but they may be worth a try.

Kait bought a custom made innerspring up in the Fresno area (better bed?), which might be something for you to look into if close enough.

I have returned something to sleeplikeabear.  I was out shipping and a bit of a restocking fee.

1" of queen blended talalay is $119 at sleepez.  They charge $49 for shipping anything though.  I am not sure about returns.

p.s. are you using the wool filled mattress pad you bought at one point?  That can add a little firmness as well.

p.s.s. it is hard to say what the right ILD will be.  Most get something 14-24 for their top layer, but they want to add some softness/comfort.  Your case is different so firmer might work or maybe 32 will feel to firm.  Not sure.

no, returned that pad...i guess i could get a 1 1/2 inch natural talalay at sleep ez as long as it has a full refund option...i will have to review both sites, prices, return policy, etc...

thanks , it all comes down to my lower right side of my back, either a mattress will result in pain there or it wont, most do...so far
