HD36-HQ softening? Better off getting Lux-HQ instead?

I'm planning a diy foam mattress, hoping to use as little topper material as I can. I was thinking that FBM's HD36-HQ would work well for what I need, in terms of density and firmness, but I read a post from LatencyMachine from 10/12 that has me concerned that the HD36 might soften too much over the course of several months. For those of you who've used FBM's HD36, have you noticed a similar softening? I'm leaning toward just getting the too-firm Lux-HQ and toppers since it seems like a safer bet, but if the HD36 doesn't soften too much, I could get away with not having to buy as much topper material.

Thanks,
Jim

Jim, I've been using the LUX-HQ (6in) for 3 months now with Tal latex (3 in 32ILD on top of 1 in soft) on top and it sleeps great. Never tried the HD36 but more than 1 person on this forum has had problems with it breaking down so I would avoid it.

Thanks, Vaphils. I decided to play it safe and go with the Lux-HQ. Should be here tomorrow, actually. I appreciate the update, also, as I'll likely be going with latex on top. Looking forward to finally getting some quality sleep.

Cheers,
Jim

vaphils, how did & does that smell?

that;s the exact type of foam I would want to try for a stiff core, but i fear the odor of even latex much less c.f.
