Flobeds versus Sleepez - convoluted topper?
Original Message Feb 5, 2009 5:41 pm |

I'm researching a latex mattress purchase, and of course two of the big choices for me are flobeds and sleepez. The important difference between them (aside from varyations in the exchange policies) is that flobeds uses a 2 inch convoluted topper whereas sleepez doesn't. Also flobeds has a 1 inch wool cover, but I'm not sure how important that is.
I'm interested to hear what the folks here think of a topper, or convoluted topper, on top of a latex mattress, versus not having one. Thoughts? Also, am I missing any other important difference between flobeds and sleepez mattresses?
Thanks

I can't answer directly because I don't have a latex mattress -- yet. But I have a convoluted foam topper (not latex) in the guest room on a very old coil mattress that must be 30 years old. I have to tell you, I love that bed with the topper. It was too firm before, but now it has a cushy feel yet provides support. I've decided that when I get a new mattress I will definitely get a latex convoluted topper. They are available at http://www.foamorder.com/foam-toppers.html. Scroll to the bottom of the page. II believe this company is now having a 10% "recession" sale. There's a code at the top of the home page. Also, if you look at the clearance section there are some great values; many of the items were returned under their liberal return policy and some were store displays. If you don't mind getting something "like new" the values look good. I especially like the organic pillowtop cover, which is a whopping $500+ new but available for about half price at clearance.

Thanks. I'd been looking around for a convoluted latex topper and hadn't seen one anywhere. Any idea what the thickness or ILD is for the one you linked to?

Sorry, I don't have any further information about foamorder's convoluted topper. I think Flobed does sell it separately. At the very bottom of Flobed's home page is a link to its catalog which lists individual products and prices.

Right, they do. I'm mostly interested in hearing opinions as to whether or not having a topper above the cores (flobeds versus sleepez) is beneficial.

I can only imagine how wonderful convoluted talalay latex would feel at the top layer. If it wasn't so expensive I'd have one!

Well from my perspective, the cost difference between flobeds and sleepez is such that I could still throw a convoluted latex topper in there if I went with sleepez. I just don't know whether or not I should bother.

For what it's worth, I just randomly came across this: http://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/Beautyrest-Latex-Fusion -Topper/2681070/product.html might be worth checking out for the price !

.... It is mostly polyurethane, and tiny tiny part latex. Ah you're right. Good call.

Well I guess the whole topic is a moot point for me now. I ordered a Sleep EZ 10000 yesterday :) Will report back.

I didn't order a topper immediately - I'm just leaving that open as an option in case we can't get the mattress to work out as is (most customers don't need to make additional changes, so we're hoping that things will work out). As for the firmnesses, I ordered split soft, medium firm layers for myself and my wife who weigh 145 and 130 respectively.
