Flobeds cover and Mattress Pad

After reading the reviews on this forum and the flobeds site (which is improved over what it was, but still difficult to navigate), It appears to me that they've changed their mattress cover.  I've seen references here to 2" Wool mattress covers where they now have 1" Wool mattress covers.

1. Is there an upgrade option for flobeds covers or have they simply changed the covers they are using?

2. Is 1" Wool enough?  I have no concept to compare as store mattresses don't label these things

3. How does their cover relate to the what I'm familiar with on a "traditional" mattress that I'd go to a mattress store and see?

Also, it's not 100% clear to me if a mattress cover is the same as a mattress pad, or mattress protector. Do you still need a mattress pad with a flobed?

Sorry about the basic questions, but I couldn't seem to find similar questions posted here already.  Perhaps they're too basic :)

The amount of wool between you and the latex will change the feel of the bed.  I tried a bed that had a lot of wool over the latex and it didn't feel like latex.  It wasn't at all soft.  All latex mattresses that come assembled have wool in the cover as a fire retardent.  I think 1" wool cover is pretty common.  Personally, I don't think I would like the feel of a 2" wool cover on top of latex.

The cover and the pad/protector are two different things. The cover normally encases the entire mattress, in flobeds case, with a zipper enclosure. A pad or protector usually just stretches to fit around the mattress, like a fitted sheet. You would put this over the cover. Many companies warranties require a protector over the mattress to protect from spills, etc.

Ok, thanks for the replies.  I would think that having 2 laters on top of the latex (cover + pad) would end up reducing the breathability of the latex?

My cover is from 2007 year and I think it is about 1" thick and I only put a fitted sheet over it that I change often. I tried mattress pads and covers but they changed the feel fo the latex.  I love the feel of the latex.
