Dormier Mattress protector questions?

Hello,

I have searched and taken the time to read other posts about this protector but I have a couple of more questions for you owners and sellers of this protector.

1st let me tell you my situation. The wife and I have the Costo Latex. We enjoy it , but it does get a little warm. (Maybe because it is $105 in North Texas!) My wife wanted a little more plush feel so we tried the Costo Cuddle bed. It made the bed even hotter and it had to go! I think we would like something that isn't as thick as the cuddlebed, but just adds a touch of softness to our Latex mattress.

So, that brings me to this forum again in the hopes of another solution and the Dormier seems like it may be it. Here are my questions:

1. Does this protector add any softness or plushness to the mattress? (My wife loves that sink in the bed feeling, but not the heat that most of those toppers bring.)

2. If it does not add any plushness or softness, is there one out there that does that does not get hot. (I suppose a wool based thicker topper of some type?)

3. Any other ideas or just order the Dormier because it will work and be just what I am looking for?

Thanks in advance for everyones replies and suugestions

MC

It doesn't add a lot of plushness or softness and isn't that thick but it adds a layer of wool under the covering but it will also be covered by your sheets.  I don't have a lot to compare it to.  We didn't get it for the heat but from what I've read, it should help with that.  It didnt' make it "luxurious" in my opinion but it is well made and looks durable.  We washed ours as suggested by someone here since there was a slight odor.  It's good now and my wife allowed me to put it on the bed.  I would say it evens out the indentations in the mattress and a small layer of cushion.

We've had the Dormeir mattress pad on our FloBed, for a couple of weeks.  Very expensive, very well made product.  We experienced a slightly extra cushiness, with the pad.  The pad "cushioned out" the peaks of our Convoluted Topper.  I know (exactly) the cushiness feel your wife is seeking.  If ordered, be prepared to wait a while.  We waited several weeks, for our mattress pad.  Besides, the Dormeir is highly touted, per Budgy ..

I just came to add another question.... about water-resistance. Are they water resistance or waterproof?  Our older cat has been peeing on things the last week or so. He's sleeping on my bed, so I don't think he'll do it there (for the time being).

I actually have one ordered but I doubt it's shipped yet, maybe not too late to cancel.

Budgy will have the final word on this but they are water resistant at best.  A spill will likely bead on it for awhile but if not gotten to early will start to seep in.  Think of being out in the rain in a wool sweater; the rain stays on the surface for quite awhile before gradually wetting the sweater throughout, unlike a cotton T that would get soaked through right away.

Good example!  If you don't mind I might have to use that explanation henceforth ;)

Thanks, Diane. It sounds like you concur, budgy.  And this is not a little cat. He's a 16 pounder with a bladder that holds almost a cup, judging from the soakings he's given clothes left on the floor. Fortunately, he's not doing it every day....

It seems a shame to put a waterproof cover on a thing this nice. What to do, what to do.

A waterproof protector on the Dormeir would most likely negate any of the heat regulation advantages of the Dormeir.  You may have to wait until you get your kitty's problem resolved (see PM).  If you put the waterproof protector under the Dormeir, it would protect your mattress, you would still get the benefits of the Dormeir BUT you would be washing the Dormeir a lot which will eventually have a detrimental effect  I change/launder sheets once a week but only launder the Dormeir about every 4-6 weeks.  I will, however, tumble it in the hot dryer once or twice between launderings just to freshen it up.

I wouldn't put it on if the cat is expected to pee on it.  Wait until his problem goes away or he does before putting it on.  Sounds like he should see the vet.  He may have bladder stones  $$$, been there done that.

Just an addition to my previous post....After sleeping on it a couple of days, it affected my latex bed just enough to keep my back aligned better and it hasn't hurt....not sure why, maybe the old placebo effect or maybe just the way it leveled out and softened the cover?  Definitely a keeper for me.
