Do I need a Zippered Cover for a Latex Topper?

I was planning to buy a 1" or 2" latex topper for our new Otis bed from FBM. I was wondering if it is necessary to spend the money for a zippered cover for the topper? The Otis Bed has a tight fitting cover so it may be hard to put the latex directly in there. My plan was to have a covered mattress and then a latex topper and then a fitted sheet over everything. Is that a good system? Thanks so much!

No, in fact I think you are better off without a cover. I have a latex layer over a covered latex mattress and NO cover on the latex layer. Without a cover the latex tends to stay in place and not move around at all. I put an old sheet over the top of the latex, then a wool/cotton fitted mattress pad, then the fitted bottom sheet. That's more than enough "cover" and no slippage! Also, I can't stress strongly enough how much of a difference the wool mattress pad makes with temperature control.....worth every cent I paid for it. (See separate posts on this forum about washable wool mattress pads). Good luck.

Thanks for the response! Glad to know I do not need to buy a cover. But the wool/cotton mattress cover is something I hadn't thought of and looks like that is even MORE expensive. :) I will try the latex without the wool for awhile and see how we get on but glad to know there is a good solution out there if we need better temperature control. I appreciate the advice!
