buying a poly foam mattress--help!

Ok, so in a recent post i said i would buy an Otis Bed (2-2.5 density foam mattress, gets great reviews, etc.). They run about $800-1000 for a king size. I was just looking at FBM pricing, and for the highest density poly foam (2.8) i can get a king for about $500 (8 inches of Lux foam (firm) or HD 36--high quality (medium)).

Only problem is that I don't know what it will feel like! Any suggestions on whether to get the firm or medium as a base (how do they feel to sleep on?), and perhaps a topper? Should i get the 8-inch firm or medium base and then add toppers as necessary? I sleep on my side and my back, and boyfriend does too (we're both lightweights).

And--if this has been discussed elsewhere in the postings, please direct me to it! I just haven't seen a whole lot on an all-polyfoam mattress, though i think there's one poster--can't remember who-- who is very familiar with it.

Thank you so much!
