We just bought a king Tempur-Pedic mattress with a low profile foundation mattress for our platform bed. It looks rather high.

It was the same story when we bought Sterns and Foster 10 years ago, then we sent the base mattress back. Our mattress held up pretty well , the only reason we  are changing the mattress is because we are switching from queen to king size.We are a bit concerned how Tempur-Pedic mattress  will hold up without a foundation mattress since it is a foam and not a spring mattress.

Has anyone had experience withjust havinga top Tempur-Pedic mattress  without foundation ?

The Tempur-Pedic foundations are not any more functional than putting your mattress on the floor.  So long as the platform you are using is strong enough and level, it will not be any different to the mattress.  Should not change anything.  Just dont put the mattress on a platform with curved slats, or flimsy slats that flex under the weight of the mattress,
